Nursery Christmas Fingerprint Ornament or Mother's Day or Father's Day

Image
I have loved serving in the nursery.  Unfortunately I knew my time was coming to an end with these adorable kids because I was going to be released at the beginning of the year.  I wanted to make something special for the kids to remember their time in nursery.  I made these stoneware hearts out of a white clay I use in my ceramics (It's called b-mix).  Then we helped the kids make two fingerprints into the soft clay in the shape of a heart.  I then fired the clay in a kiln.   I love how they turned out!  I got the quote from a talk given by President Monson called Finding Joy in the Journey.   Click here for the link to the talk. Here are the 8.5 x 11 originals I printed and cut into cards. This has cut and fold marks. This one does not have the cut and fold marks.

How to make the best tasting, low sugar, greek yogurt!

Image
Making Homemade Low Sugar Greek Yogurt I had wanted to try making yogurt for years but it seemed so intimidating.  Then one night we had an activity in Relief Society and we learned how to make yogurt.  I couldn't believe how easy it was! There are a few essential tools you need. A slow cooker with low setting or an instant pot with yogurt setting. A digital thermometer. A microwave. A microwave safe bowl. (I use a glass bowl.) A strainer. A dish cloth or cheese cloth. First I heat the milk in the microwave.  It takes about 35-40 minutes in my microwave to get a gallon of milk up to 180 degrees.  You can do this on the stove but it would take quite a long time and you would need to stir it the whole time!  It's very easy to burn milk on the stove, so I go for the microwave.  You can also heat the milk in the instant pot, but I totally burned the milk when I tried this.  I did do it once without burning the milk, but it had a different texture when heating it in

Clay in the Potters Hands. What can pottery teach us about becoming more like our Savior?

Image
I have given a presentation about becoming clay in the masters hands to Young Women's groups and Relief Society Sisters.  I love the parallels between one of my favorite art forms and the gospel.  The following is what I have learned from clay. Clay in the Potters Hands Have thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Thou art the Potter; I am the clay. Mould me and make me After Thy will, While I am waiting, Yielded and still. The United Methodist Hymnal Number 382 Text:  Adelaide A. Pollard, 1862-1934 Music:  George C. Stebbins, 1846-1945  I would like to teach you about turning your life over to Christ.  How can we become all the Savior and our Heavenly Father want us to become?  Here are some ways I’ve learned through pottery. Wedge the Clay - Wedging is the preparation to get the clay ready to become a pot. Clay becomes more pliable. Ensures a uniform consistency. Removes air pockets as well as any debris. In life we experience chal
