Iron Rod Girls Camp, Activity Days, Young Women Craft

Hi everyone.  This is a craft we did in Activity Days, but it works for any youth group.  We did a mother daughter activity and we took pictures of the daughter and mothers hands holding the iron rod.  You could just do it of the individual youth or they could do it with friends or leaders too.  We did a lesson about the iron rod.  Here's a link to a talk by Elder Bednar if you choose to use it.
To take the pictures I draped a piece of black fabric over a couple of chairs.  Then we used a wooden dowel I had painted silver to hold horizontally in front of the black fabric.  I had the mothers and daughters alternate their hands one facing forward and one facing back to give more visual interest.  The graphic is available here to download it is a psd file or photoshop file.   I got the photos printed at Alphagraphics on text weight paper.  We painted the mdf boards black, then glued the image onto the boards and used modge podge to cover the image and protect it.  We drilled two holes in the corners of the boards and strung a ribbon through the holes to hang the new art.  (If you drill the holes first before gluing the pictures on, the holes look a bit more finished)  It was a huge success.  The girls and mothers loved it.  The girls had a great reminder to hold to the iron rod and to love their mothers.
